5 Ways To Get Mentally Prepared Before The Big Game


Wake Up at a Reasonable Hour

By waking up early, your body will feel energized and ready to start the day.  Although sleeping in and getting more rest is tempting (trust me, I know), it often puts your body into a groggy and lethargic state. So when the night before game day rolls around, go to bed at a responsible hour and set your alarm so you can start your day with a clear and energized mind.

 

Eat Healthy

Eating right is also another way to get your mind and body into shape before a game.  This is one of the most important things you can do for your body whether your game is a week away or a day away.  Getting the right nutrition and staying hydrated throughout the entire day will go a long way on the playing field.  So next time those French fries are staring you down, steer clear and go for the fruits and veggies instead. Your body will thank you later.

 

Arrive to the Field or Venue Early

Arriving early in any situation is a must; it is the professional and responsible way to prepare for what you are about to encounter. The day of a game, showing up ahead of time is an absolute necessity in terms of preparation, because it allows you to get your gear organized, your thoughts in order, and your body warmed up. Also, arriving early will give you more time to relax before game time!

 

Review Your Scouting Report

After you get to the field or venue early, it’s always a good idea to sit down and review your opponent. If your coach doesn’t make a scouting report for you, then watch film and make one yourself. Go over all your opponent’s skills and tendencies to make sure you can create the right match-ups. You should know your opponents as well as you know your own team!

 

Pre-Game Rituals

Right before you go out on the field, do everything it takes to pump yourself up and get in to the right mindset. Some teams have particular rituals like huddles or chants. However, you as an individual may have your own ritual like praying, listening to a pump-up playlist or wearing a certain article of clothing. So when you’re about to step out on the field and get that “W”, make sure you remembered to put on that lucky pair of underwear!
